El caganer – カガネー

Este fin de semana decoramos el salón de casa de mis padres con motivos navideños. Mi madre y yo decoramos nuestro árbol de 1’85 m (quedó chulísimo) y pusimos el belén. Nuestro belén es muy simple ya que sólo tenemos las figuritas del nacimiento, pero una figura que no falta es la del caganer.

El caganer es una figura del pesebre català (belén catalán) muy tradicional. Representa a un hombre, ataviado con traje típico y barretina (sombrero típico catalán) que está defecando. “Qué desagradable!!”, diréis, pero esta figura tiene un significado especial. Es un símbolo de la fertibilidad. Al estar defecando, fertiliza el suelo, siendo un augurio de prosperidad para el año próximo.
En las ferias de Navidad que hay durante estos días en Cataluña se puede encontrar con facilidad las tiendas donde los venden. También podemos encontrar caganers con la cara y cuerpo de personajes famosos, habiendo incluso la elección de Caganer de l’Any (Caganer del Año). Es un honor que te escojan para representar una figura de caganer, aunque pueda parecer lo contrario. Una de las figuras más populares de este año ha sido el caganer Barack Obama.
Curiosamente el caganer no es el único personaje navideño que defeca. Lo dejo para mi próxima entrada…

This last weekend my mother and I put the Christmas decoration in our living room: our Christmas tree (it looks great!!) and the “belen” (Nativity scene figures). Our “belen” is very simple because we only have the figures of the Nativity, but one figure very important is the “caganer”.
The “caganer” is a traditional figure of the pesebre català (catalan Nativity scene). It represents a man, wearing traditional catalan clothes and “barretina” (catalan hat) who is defecating. “That’s horrible!!”, maybe you are thinking, but this figure has a special meaning. It’s a fertility symbol. This figure is defecating on ground, being a symbol of prosperity for the new year.
In Christmas Festival in Cataluña is very easy to find some shops where to buy them. We can find some “caganer” figures with the body and face of popular people, even there is a “Caganer de l’Any” (Caganer of the Year). It’s an honour to be chose for this. One of the caganer figures most popular of this year is the Barack Obama figure.
It’s funny but the “caganer” is not the only one traditional catalan character who is defecating. i will write about it in my next post…
